Galapagos are more than a natural wonder; they are also home to an unfolding story of land conservation and environmental stewardship. Lava Java owners, Scott and Maria-Elena have spent two decades of dedication, frustration, love, humility, ups and downs, bugs, triumphs, and countless pairs of gloves to produce Galapagos’ highest quality, certified organic, and bird-friendly coffee on formerly abandoned land that had become a reservoir of aggressive weeds and insect pests.
This same land is now a thriving agroecological system spanning 15 hectares of restored highland forest with nearly 20,000 coffee bushes scattered throughout the property and all the other native species of plants, animals, and trees. It is a food forest, that produces one of the world’s most unique and delicious coffees, Lava Java.
