Organic Agave Nectar comes from the blue agave plant and is grown in Mexico, famed for its production of agave and tequila. The plant is a slow-growing succulent that takes about 10 years to reach maturity.
Centuries ago, the Aztecs extracted the sap of the agave plant to make a sweet beverage called “aguamiel” (sweet water), which would also be fermented into an alcoholic drink, something they had figured out long before the Spanish conquest. The leaves of the plant are fibrous and can be used to make ropes, textiles, construction materials and sandals. It is the heart of the plant that produces the sweet sap known as agave, or agave in the raw: the perfect sweetener, in moderation, for healthy plant-based nutrition.
