Bee Fun Facts
A honeybee worker only makes an average of 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. One ounce of honey would fuel a bee’s flight around the world.
2 million flower visits produce one pound of honey. The bees fly a total of 55,000 miles to bring the nectar for one pound of honey. A honeybee visits 50-100 flowers in one trip.
Honeybees never sleep and an average hive has 50,000 to 60,000 worker bees. The honeybee is the only insect that produces food for humans.

New Zealand Manuka Honey UMF™ 15+ MGO 510
Certified and 100% traceable
New Zealand Manuka honey sourced from the west coast of the North Island. This is New Zealand’s best! Taranaki is a wild and rugged region towered over by Mt Egmont (Taranaki). New Zealand is famous for its raw natural beauty, world-class sailors, rugby, kiwifruit, fine wines, chocolate, and, of course, this one-of-a-kind rare, certified, 100% traceable Manuka honey. Herbaceous, rich, and earthy Manuka honey is delectable.
Higher numbers = higher potency = longer shelf life
All pure New Zealand Manuka Honeys come in varying degrees of strength. The higher the numbers (UMF and MGO) the more potent the honey. UMF and MGO are the most used grading systems and the most trusted. For some light bedtime reading check out the charts at the bottom of this page.
UMF™ is shorthand for the most comprehensive, independently certified and internationally recognized quality assurance system for New Zealand Manuka honey (Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA). Its purpose is to validate Manuka honey potency, authenticity, purity, shelf life and freshness for honey producers, brands, customers and consumers around the world. The best Manuka honeys have a DHA above 70mg per kg, which means a longer shelf life of the active ingredient MGO.
Only one standard independently assures the quality of New Zealand Manuka honey so consumers around the world can be confident in the strength and purity of each jar they buy. Each Manuka honey product that carries the UMF™ trademark must pass the stringent Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA) quality, grading and rating tests.
MGO = Antibacterial properties, higher number = more potency.
Leptosperin = Key marker that confirms authenticity.
HMF = Duration and temperature of storage of honey at time of packing.
DHA = Indicates shelf life, higher DHA = longer shelf life.
100% Pure and Traceable
New Zealand has zero honey imports, which means UMF™ certified honey contains no adulterants. In fact, all retail products with the quality mark are traceable to independent UMFHA licensed suppliers and producers. This unparalleled assurance system applies strict product standards and testing protocols to confirm the traceability, purity and product quality of authentic 100% New Zealand Manuka honey, so that you know what you’re buying is genuinely produced, packed and sealed in New Zealand.
Manuka trees only flower for a few weeks each year (approximately 2–6 weeks), so the beehives are situated in the densest populations of manuka bushes. Obviously, the weather and the amount of nectar the flowers produce all influence the quantity of honey produced each season. Manuka honey is rare, hence the higher cost. Genuine Manuka honey comes only from New Zealand, as the manuka bush (leptospermum scoparium) is native to New Zealand.
The indigenous Maori (Māori) of New Zealand (Aotearoa), who were among the first to inhabit the islands, discovered Manuka honey and its healing properties thousands of years ago. This local knowledge was passed down through the generations. The manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium) is an evergreen shrub or small tree with little white and occasionally pink flowers that attract pollinators, especially bees.
From the untouched heart of Taranaki, New Zealand, comes Poautu Manuka honey—an exquisite range of Manuka honey born from purity and dripping with rich flavor. The Forgotten Highway, home to Poautu, is nestled within one of New Zealand’s most remote and rugged landscapes. In the shadow of the imposing Mt Egmont, Poautu bees roam across flowering fields and hidden hills thick with native kāmahi, rewarewa, rātā, and mānuka.
UMFÒ is the symbol to look for to ensure that you are getting genuine Manuka honey from New Zealand, guaranteed. Check out this website that explains the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) and how to choose the best manuka honey for your needs.
