Higher numbers = higher potency = longer shelf life

UMF™ is shorthand for the most comprehensive, independently certified and internationally recognized quality assurance system for New Zealand Manuka honey (Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA). Manuka trees only flower for a few weeks each year (approximately 2–6 weeks), so the beehives are situated in the densest populations of manuka bushes. Genuine Manuka honey comes only from New Zealand, as the manuka bush (leptospermum scoparium) is native to New Zealand.

The manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium) is an evergreen shrub or small tree with little white and occasionally pink flowers that attract pollinators, especially bees.
