Leonardi Traditional Balsamic Vinegar is the very best of DOP Balsamic vinegars from the famous Leonardi to be used sparingly as a perfect finish for meat, fish or a sweet treat over panna cotta, berries, or gelato. Aged for a minimum of 12 years in wooden barrels, transferred each year to a different type of wooden barrel to absorb the essences of the wood. This sweet and wonderfully round traditional balsamic vinegar has hints of caramel, oak, fig, and cherry. Best drizzled at the very end of cooking, once removed from the flame.
Since 1871, the Leonardi family in the Italian province of Modena has consistently produced Modena’s finest award-winning balsamic vinegars. Now the 4th generation of the Leonardi family uses the same methods as their forebears. The vinegar is produced with the traditional methods and with various types of wooden aging barrels. Each batch is progressively transferred to a different type of barrel to take on the essence of the wood. 10 hectares of farmland owned exclusively by the family produce the Lambrusco (red grape) and the Trebbiano (white grape), which are hand-picked each harvest, usually in September or October.
