Since the 1800s, the Mirogallo family has owned a large farm in the outskirts of Matera that specializes in cultivating heirloom varieties of vegetables and fruit and traditional methods of preserving. Matera is a small city in the Italian province of Basilicata in the south of Italy. Matera is set along the famous Appian Way and retains many local traditions.
