Our Sustainable Secret: Goats Turning Leftover Grains into Artisanal Cheese
At Schullo, residue from the manual selection of our products is constantly present. We hand-pick the best rice, oats, and other cereals. Any grains that don’t fit our highest standards are discarded. So, what do we do with all of these nutritious leftovers? Who would really appreciate them? Goats that are specifically bred to produce local artisanal goat cheese!
Goats are picky eaters with sensitive lips that they utilize to ‘mouth’ possible food before swallowing it. They are curious and intelligent animals who will come when their names are called. Goats are sociable and being away from their herd has been known to make them depressed. The balance and coordination of goats are incredible; they can climb vertical mountains, trees and jump nearly 5-12 feet high.
Happy goats produce great cheese!
“Our goats love the Schullo leftovers, which are of exceptional quality. We only give them to pregnant females, since it will benefit their overall health and well-being, and their offspring will have a healthier weight,” commented Jose M., owner of La Pampilla.
Every little bit helps!
